Monday was President's Day - Rob had the day off so it turned into Papa and Kasper Day while I went to work. It sounds like they had a fun day and only missed one nap. Not bad!
Rob blew into an empty beer bottle for an impromptu jug dance. He attracted a little audience.
Then we stuck K in my shoes and laughed while he tried to walk around.
The rest of the week FLEW by! I couldn't believe it was the weekend again already (not that I'm complaining). I was supposed to visit our friend's new baby but I managed to catch a cold mid-week so I couldn't hold him. I was looking forward to it but I had a winter newborn and know how important it is to keep those little ones healthy! Last year I had a winter newborn, this year I have a winter toddler. Some things change but some stay exactly the same.
Thursday was the 2 year anniversary of Kasper's daycare center so they had cheese and crackers for parents picking up their kids as well as balloons for the kids. Kasper made a beeline for the balloons and carried his all the way to the car all by himself. He had a death grip on that thing. He loves his globos.
Getting in a quick book before school
Kasper loves to sit under the warm water in his bath. It's one of the few things that will make him sit still.
While Rob and Kasper went to their last day of swimming lessons, I made these scones again. They are so good.
Daily dose of Kasper faces.
Kasper has been into finger puppets at daycare so we broke open the ones we had here. I thought he was too young for them but apparently he isn't!
He walks around with the little puppet on his finger. It's so cute.
He doesn't always like to eat at the table but I'm still a little overzealous about getting him to eat, eat, eat to gain some weight. What ends up happening is I chase him all over the house with yogurt to get some extra calories into him.
We've been able to spend a relaxing Sunday at home. We did some work around the house during Kasper's 2.5 hour nap and other than that we've just been playing with the boy! The little daredevil boy.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

How to throw a tantrum, by Kasper
Step 1: Look ridiculously cute in your overalls.
Step 2: Decide you're done with your day so you might as well throw a fit.
Step 3: Go to the tupperware drawer and start pitching stuff.
Step 4: Stand up for more throwing power.
Step 5: Go back to the tupperware drawer to grab more stuff - your point hasn't gotten across to your Mother.
Step 6: Survey the scene.
Step 7: Scream and roll around in the tupperware carnage. And why won't your dumb Mom stop taking pictures and put you in the bath already?
Step 8 (not shown): Mom puts down the camera and gets you off to bed.

A day late...
Hope I didn't disappoint the 2 of you that read this by posting a day late! We had a busy Sunday and I just didn't get around to it! So there.
Let's see if I can remember what last week was like...
Kasper struggled with napping last week so there was a lot of sleeping in the car. He hadn't been doing that for months but he was asleep almost every evening when we pulled into the driveway. It was pretty cute, actually.
He got into dancing, finally! He never really seemed like he heard the music that's often on in the house but now he's finally getting down a little. He has different tastes in music from his parents - I think he favorite song is from his Thomas book.
K is also still really into kissing and faces. Rob gives Kasper his bath at night and gets him all ready for bed. I happened to catch this moment and got a couple pictures before I perished from the cuteness.
Everyone still alive?
This weekend we had a mix of busy and relaxing. Saturday I treated myself to a massage and shopping while Kasper and Rob made it a pajama day.
I'm pretty sure it's common for a 14 month old but Kasper is never STILL. He's just a whirling dervish of curiosity. He'll blow into the kitchen, open the tupperware drawer and throw everything out then spin over to the cutting boards and toss those around the room. Then he'll pick up a tupperware lid and run into the living room where he'll poke an electrical outlet.
Eventually he'll make his way into the sunroom to stand on his rocking chair. Rinse and repeat until nap time when we get a chance to catch our breath.
As tiring as it is, it's fun to watch Kasper grow and learn. He really is an interactive and funny young man.
Saturday night Rob and I put the dervish to bed, made ourselves some penne with vodka sauce, poured a couple glasses of wine and completed last week's New York Times crossword. It was wonderful!
Yesterday we woke up, had breakfast and headed down to Austin to see my grandparents' new apartment and browse around their estate sale. I'll miss that house I grew up spending holidays in and visiting my Grandma and Grandpa but their apartment is great and feels like home already. We picked up some things in the estate sale that will always remind us of them. Kasper was a wonderful car traveler as usual. We left when he was ready for his first nap and he slept about a half hour then drank water and played with Sophie the giraffe for the next hour. He was such a good boy while we were in Austin which was nice. We headed back to the Cities when it was time for his second nap and he slept for an hour! It was perfect timing!
Last night we celebrated my Dad's and my birthday a couple weeks early. I LOVE having a nice big table for entertaining. We can fit 7 people around there no problem!
My Mom and Sandra surprised me with the Cricut I had been wanting! Watch out paper, vinyl and fabric! A cricut, lodge cast iron skillet and Red Wing stoneware bowl. My idea of heaven.
The boys were home today in honor of President's Day. I'll save that for this weekend - this is enough for tonight! Have a great week!

Happy Valentine's Day!
P.S. Remember last year? Kasper was just learning how to smile. Love my little Valentine.
P.P.S. Note to self, you use pixenate to make these heart photos. That should save you some time next year.

Mira!
Why is it always Sunday night? Just when we start settling into the weekend it's over! Isn't that always the way.
Kasper may have added a new word to his vocabulary this week - mira - the Spanish word for "Es dat". They told me about it at daycare but I hadn't heard it until this weekend when he was pointing out some things to my Mom. I think it's clear that he is more of a Spanish speaker than an English speaker.
Our week was more of the same. We've settled into a little winter routine. I try to cook as much for the next day the night before so Kasper and I have more time to play when we get home. That was one thing I struggled with but this seems like a good solution. It's nice to spend our short time together in the evenings getting our play on. Kasper is such a curious and fun boy. He knows what he's not supposed to touch so naturally goes right over to it and looks right at me while touching. Testing some boundries.
Here I was playing "Put the chip clip on Kasper's clothes and watch him try to take it off."
He's still a sweet little baby, too.
This week we worked on eating with a spoon. He can grab the spoon, dip it in the food and get it to his mouth. Now we work on having the spoon right side up and actually filling it with food!
We had a fun Saturday morning before the guys headed off to swimming lessons. Kasper showed off his new trick - signing "all done!" and possibly saying "all done" but it's hard to tell.
Spoon usage!
Kasper has a lot of fun playing now. He's always been a pretty good individual player but now he'll toddle over to his toys and spend some good time over there! He can also solve the shape sorters! So smart!
I was going to get K ready for swimming and was giving him lots of kisses which he was giving back. He's really into hugs and kisses this week. He got a little carried away with this kiss. Ha!
When the guys got home from swimming, I was downstairs doing some laundry so I didn't hear them come in. Rob came down to get me and I assumed K had fallen asleep in the car. Turns out he had, but he stayed sleeping as Rob got him out of his car seat and brought him inside and laid him down in his crib! He slept for THREE HOURS. He slept through lunch! I don't remember the last time he had such a long nap. The best part? He woke up still having his hood up and jacket and mittens on.
He slept so hard it took awhile to wake up.
My Mom came down last night to watch the boy while Rob and I got to go out for dinner! We went out to Bar La Grassa and had a wonderful meal as usual.
Kasper and I are in the midst of weaning. He nurses only 1-2 times a day and I'm seeing what happens when we cut those times out. He seems to be fine with not nursing in the morning but can't seem to settle down in the evening without it. I didn't nurse at all before naps this weekend for the first time ever so that was promising. I tried what daycare does and put him on his stomach while patting his back. It worked like a charm this morning but didn't work in the afternoon. Rob ended up bundling him up again and going for a run. That worked.
And just like that the weekend is over. Hope everyone had a good one!
