25 weeks
What a week! Kasper was not, in fact, on the mend last Sunday. His fever spiked back up to 102 and was basically 100-102 from Friday until Tuesday evening. We waited it out until Tuesday when I brought him in. It was an ear infection. His first! We came home with some amoxicillin and he has been FINALLY feeling better. At least on the ear infection front. He's still deep in a wonder week which has only complicated things.
Sleep was a challenge this week as Kasper was not feeling well. Starting Sunday, he got this horrible stuffy nose that I couldn't suck out. Pair that with a fever and he didn't feel like eating, couldn't sleep. Blah. My Mom came down to be with him Monday since he couldn't go to daycare with the fever. When I got home and took his temp - 102, I finally gave him some Tylenol. (The nurse line didn't want me to give it if the fever was under 102) He perked right up and even got to do some playing!
Cool bath before bed.
We headed to the Dr at 7 am Tuesday morning where we got the ear infection diagnosis. I took the day off Tuesday to be with my boy. Before going to the pharmacy, we stopped and had a bagel and coffee. Then we browsed around Trader Joes! Then we finally went to Target to get the antibiotic. I love giving Kasper's birthday when I have to. 1-1-11. So easy! And it always gets a reaction. Then the pharmacist asked what Kasper weighed that day for mixing the medicine. He was up to 15.8 pounds. Still just a little guy!
As Tuesday wore on the fever broke and K realized that he didn't feel well. I think the fever sort of dulled the pain. Our day at home together wasn't everything I had dreamed. I was not allowed to put the baby down. If I did managed to wrangle out of his grasp, I was not allowed to leave his sight. I obliged and we took some nice naps together and had many snuggles. It was his first real illness and I'd like to think that being able to have me home was a comfort to him.
I had to give him pedialyte with a little dropper to help him stay hydrated. He couldn't nurse very well with the stuffy nose and wouldn't drink the pedialyte out of a bottle. He'll take almost anything with a syringe though.
K went back to daycare on Wednesday but wasn't feeling himself until Friday. His last day at his current daycare is this Friday July 1. I know that the ladies there are really going to miss him. They always talk about what a good, happy baby he is. On Tuesday while I was home daycare called me to see how he was feeling and to tell me that they missed him! Maybe all daycares do that, but I thought it was so sweet. K actually has his 6 month checkup on the 1st and I was going to stay home since he gets shots, but I think I'll send him to daycare so that everyone can say goodbye. I get the feeling that they want as much time with them as they can get. I totally understand. One of the girls even offered to nanny for us!
So this week was a real challenge but we made it! We rewarded ourselves by having Grandma Sandra come down to watch the boy yesterday while we went to see King Tut at the Science Museum and went out for sushi! Grandma Sandra found Kasper a Oregon Ducks onesie! He loved it.
We're getting more serious about packing since we have less than 3 weeks until we move. While I was putting some of Kasper's things away, I found the little knit hat he wore home from the hospital. I had misplaced that thing months ago and was always so sad that I thought I had lost it. It was so big on him when he was a little peanut. Here he was after his first bath at 2 weeks old.
And here he is now. This picture is totally blurry but I love his little face in the center.
Sigh.
Unfortunately we didn't get to work much on sitting this week. We tried this weekend and he is getting better but he's nowhere near sitting on his own. I can't wait until he can sit and play. We also tried bananas a couple more times this week. No go. He does not care for bananas but loves rice cereal and avocados. Next up - sweet potatoes!
Another weekend gone. It was a good one, though. Kasper was finally his happy self, Rob and I got away to do some things on our own and we spent the day as a family today. We even got out for a walk around Lake Harriet when the sun came out! Kasper rode in his BOB without the infant car seat! He's a little too small to ride with the seat all the way up, so we reclined it and he relaxed while we walked. I think he even caught some shut eye. I missed that sweet, content baby
Week 25 - The week of ear infection #1. And not much else.
