Ahhhh...summer

Well, today was one of those days Minnesotans wait for all year. It was amazing.

Back to this week, it was a pretty average week. I had my 12 week OB appointment Monday - I have another post to go with that whole story later. Thanks for all the nice congratulations!

Ever since we got rid of the paci Kasper has been waking up way too early in the mornings so I invested in a toddler clock to see if that would help. The clock glows yellow all night (another bonus - a nightlight!) then turns green when it's time to get up. The first morning Kasper still woke up at 5:30 and called for me. I reminded him that I would come get him when his clock turned green (6:30). He whined until it turned green and I went to get him. After the first morning he seemed to get it and is quiet until the clock turns green! I don't know if he actually goes back to sleep if it's still yellow or lays quietly and I don't really care all that much. he gets it. For the weekend I set it for 7:15 and it worked. Nice.

This boy is OBSESSED with Berenstain Bear books. He totes them all over the house to read. This was 6:45 one morning before school.

Saturday we played outside and did some gardening in the morning. It was nice and sunny. We pushed nap back an hour so we could go to the Chanhassen Library to watch one of our favorite bands - the Okee Dokee Brothers! Kasper loves theses songs so we thought it would be fun for him to see. He's a pretty shy guy at first and wanted to sit on my lap in the back of the room at the beginning.

Eventually he got up and danced.

One of the funnest parts for Rob and I - the tallest guy we've ever seen was there! I've talked about him on the blog before. We saw him at the zoo once. We didn't notice him at first because he was sitting on the floor. Then when it was time to dance he somehow unfolded all 7'3" of himself and got up to dance. (Someone asked how tall.) He was dancing and having a great time. Isn't he TALL??

Rob is standing right next to him. Also, that's his wife standing in front of him.

Ready for a nap.

We delayed the nap for an hour so of course he only slept about an hour. Boo. He was totally grumpy last night. He did help me make brownies.

This morning we got up, had breakfast and headed over to Lake Nokomis for a beach day with friends. It was such a beautiful morning and it was so fun to see everyone out enjoying the lake. Us Minnesotans take advantage of every nice MINUTE of the summer. It's amazing. Kasper started out shy again and only wanted to sit on my lap while the other kids hopped right in the lake. I think he's going to be more like his Mama sometimes. He eventually warmed up and left the nest. We had SUCH a fun time this morning!

This is about as close as he got to the water. He didn't go in past his ankles.

At around 12:30, Kasper walked up to me and said he was cold and wanted to go home and take a nap. After yesterday, I knew I owed it to him to let him have a nice nap today.

Homeboy slept over 3 hours this afternoon. In fact, I went in and woke him up when he stirred so he wouldn't sleep all evening! We had such a fun morning outside and the weather was still so nice we decided to pack a picnic dinner and head to Excelsior!

The amazing news...

Welcome Summer!

Summer came in with a bang here in MN. We've had 80+ degree days and INCHES of rain this past week. We are fortunate to not have lost power but it looks like many others in our part of town did.

One nice thing about all this rain - our yard is LUSH. We don't really take care of it in a normal summer so having so much rain has made the grass very happy. The backyard looks like a jungle.

Also, is there anything better than PEONIES in bloom? I certainly don't think do. We inherited 4 peony plants at the new house but unfortunately they're all the same! I'm thinking of planting some more variety for next year because I love them so much.

This week Kasper showed some interest in wearing his big boy undies and was allowed to wear them in the evenings. I think he is far, far from potty training but I'm happy he's showing at least some interest! He still doesn't let us know when he has to go or make any effort to get on the potty. I can't wait for him to be potty trained. He's going to look so darn cute in his undies. Especially when he gains some weight and fills them out.

A daycare craft - glasses! Cracked me up.
Daycare crafts are my favorite.

Daycare was closed Friday afternoon so we picked up Kasper and headed home for his nap. When he woke up we did some playing outside since it wasn't raining. I realize now that this outfit totally didn't match.

We moved from the front yard to the back yard so Lois could go out. Kasper was having a great time running around while I sat on the bench swing. At one point, a blue and white streak flew by me down the hill, caught a stick and went down hard. He laid there for a minute or so then said "Mama?" I asked if he was ok. He said no. He wasn't crying so I wasn't worried he was hurt and was trying not to laugh.

He was having such a fun time, too.

More big boy undies!
Getting interested in big boy undies! Far from ready but I'm enjoying the skinny legs for now.

Friday night Kasper and Rob ran around the house with some of Kasper's cars. I got this first short video:

Then Rob got video from his point of view.

That little butt!!

Very in to drawing circles. He was proud of this masterpiece.

Yesterday morning Kasper went in for a haircut. He always looks so old after he gets a cut! Loving the bubbles.

Yesterday was pretty lazy and so was today. It rained off and on all weekend so we didn't make many plans to be outside. We went to get groceries this morning. When we got home we were all kind of doing our own thing. I was standing in the kitchen. Rob was in the living room and Kasper was running around with his tractor. He was running back and forth through the kitchen. At one point, he hit the kitchen rug, the tractor catches on it and he flew over the the tractor landing face first on the rug. He immediately got a rug pattern on his forehead and a little swelling so we had him put some ice on it. We said to lay down and put the ice on his head so naturally he laid face down in his diaper box with an ice pack.

Then I put him in the box.
DSC_0531.jpg

When he woke up from his nap his nose was majorly bruised! Hahahaha! He must've hit it hard! It doesn't hurt him, just looks bad.

DSC_0556.jpg
He and Rob were talking about it in the tub and his version went something like this "I was running with the tractor and hit the rug and then I went splat and laid down."

I'm sure no one noticed but I didn't get around to writing during the week. I'll try again so check back!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.
