December

November was a real black hole, I guess. We didn't do much besides go to school and work!

This weekend the Christmas season started and we couldn't be more excited! We cut down our tree yesterday and decorated the house. Marlo has been waiting months for this.

Bring on December! Hope everyone had a great month!

Happy Halloween

It was Halloween week! And a weird weather week at that. The first few days were record warm then by the time Halloween rolled around, the fun school parade was cancelled due to a wintry mix. I was so sad to not see all the kids in their costumes this year especially since it's our last year at the school.

Thankfully the snow and rain stopped for trick or treating and it was actually a nice night for it.

October

You just can't beat fall in MN, can you?? We have such beautiful trees in our yard and along our road, it's so golden.

Rob had surgery on his head the other last week and it went well! Then 7 days later he looked like this and we had a good laugh. It's all gone now, thankfully.

Today the kids played in a fun Ultimate tournament. It was 4 games and lasted all day! Thankfully the weather was so beautiful and it was a nice excuse to be outside. There was a visiting 5th grade girl from a different district and she and Marlo became instant besties.

Hopefully everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather and had a great weekend!

Fall

Happy fall! We had such a busy September. I think it's finally slowing down a bit around here. Sailing ended last week and Ultimate ended this week!

We are getting some Halloween supplies.

We were lucky to see some of the best Northern Lights from our front door this week! The sky was literally pink. We are so spoiled with Northern Lights recently.

I will just never get over how cool they are.

Yesterday the kids had their last Ultimate games of the fall season. They finished strong right as Marlo was finally feeling comfortable!

Today we cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. It was overdue. I think we're all looking forward to some quieter weeks ahead.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

September

Oops. It's easy to fall off but I always like reading them in the future.

We're settling into the school year. Marlo is doing a fall sailing thing where they are in even bigger boats. It's so peaceful out there in the evenings, I love it.

The kids are also playing Ultimate every weekened. Last weekend it rained almost the whole time.

But yesterday it was gorgeous and the kids had the best games. They even connected for a point in one game with Marlo scoring! She caught 2 in one game yesterday which was fun.

Today we got over to the Apple House for apples and doughnuts.

Back to school

Back to school! Life comes at you fast.

IMG_7882 IMG_8977

The week was busy as we were also getting into the swing of things. Both kids are ruling the schools this year which is kind of fun. Next year they'll be the small fish. In somewhat fun news, Marlo joined the middle school ultimate team! She's the only 5th grader so is still intimidated but once everyone knows shes probably the best thrower nad catcher on the team she'll have some confidence. They had their first 2 games this weekend and went 1-1. Not a bad start.

It was a short week but seemed like it lasted forever. We'll just hang on, I guess.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Labor Day

Summer is over! I can't believe it!

It went out with a bang. We had a few days of really bad weather and lost a big tree.

It's been a big job chopping it up and moving it away. Rob had a couple helpers. Kasper and this other friend.

We had school open houses, met teachers, saw friends, took school photos.

We headed up to the Gunflint Trail Friday morning for the long weekend. It's always such a fun time. This year, it was too windy to go out on canoes so we stayed near the campsite for the most part. The kids played Kan Jam almost the entire time. They played for hours and hours every day and had adults pick the teams. We had PEAK children this year. Our group then 6 other little kids at other cabins. It was chaos.

We got to see some little Northern Lights the first night!

Rob and I did a hike at Gunflint Lodge.
  IMG_7828 IMG_7829

While we hiked, the fishers fished and we had a fish fry with the walleye they caught that day. IMG_7845

When we found out we would be ill adivsed to take canoes out, we rented motorboats to go cliff jumping. When we found out we would be ill advised to take motor boats out, our group of 21 went for a hike! It was no joke and some kids turned around but most of us had a great hike and it scratched the portage itch for those of us that were disappointed to not go out into the BWCA.

Side note - I've literally had 2 beers in my life (I don't care for beer) but it looks like I spend all my time hiking with one. That's funny.

Another great Gunflint trip in the books! We got back this afternoon and have been getting back to real life and trying to forget school starts tomorrow!
