Quarantine: Week 24

Wow. We had such an uneventful week I didn't take any pictures and Rob took 3.

This week we had no activities. It was pretty much our last week of summer and we certianly relaxed and enjoyed it!

The only notable thing about our week is Marlo makes us play Ticket To Ride as often as she can.

I honestly don't know if Marlo got out of her pjs any day this week. Kasper spent most of his time in boxer briefs. We're just surviving at this point.

We head up North next week for the final hurrah of summer then it's back to school for these two! They are SO excited. I'm glad they are because I still feel like there is so much up in the air with school starting in about a week. They don't even have their teacher assignments yet! We'll make it.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Quarantine: Week 23

When should I stop numbering the quarantine weeks? I guess when we all go back to our "normal" lives, huh?

This week wasn't normal! We had our first visit to Children's Hospital for surgery. We've been very lucky to have healthy kids. Marlo had a belly button hernia that was bothering her so she got it fixed!

They had so many crafts for Marlo to do.

There she goes!

Rob and I weren't allowed to be with her while she was put to sleep under the new COVID rules which was sad but apparently she did great by herself! The surgery took about a half hour then she woke up for a bit before coming back to her room. She was very confused.

She got to eat a couple popsicles to help her get discharged. She had the best time after the surgery waking up, eating popsicles, getting her bearings, watching tv and lying in "the very coziest" bed.

She'd sit up, do some art then lay back down and recollect herself. It took about 2 hours to come back to normal.

Home by lunch!

The recovery was pretty smooth. We kept her loaded with tylenol and ibuprofen for 3 days. She laid mostly low for about an afternoon then resumed normal activities. The Dr. said to not limit her in any way so as long as she was feeling good we let her do it! You could tell when it was time for a med refresh but all in all I was impressed with her recovery. She couldn't put on her own shoes and socks for a couple days and couldn't bend over until today. She got to sit in a bath today so I think she's feeling pretty good. Her belly button is all kinds of shades of green and purple which is gross.

Her aunt gave her some activities to do in recovery which she absolutley ate up.

Back at it!

This weekend Rob and Kasper went to a cabin with friends! Sounds like they had a fantastic time.

Marlo and I spent the day doing whatever popped into her mind. We went to Michaels for crafts, played tennis, cooked dinner, played Skip Bo.
The boys came back today and we went over to celebrate Steph and Clare's birthdays! It was the first time my whole family has gotten together since my birthday back in March! The cousins missed each other. The party ended up being a kids water fight which I'm sure felt good in this heat. My favorite was when Kasper helped Harriet get her shoes on. He loves little kids.

Whew! Busy week we had! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Quarantine: Week 22

The kids went to another week of camp! It's only 2 hours a day but they really love it.

We started the week with the weirdest weather. Storms kept forming basically right over our house so we had a severe thunderstorm for about 7 hours along with hail and so much rain it overflowed the rain gauge.

Did anyone else love shucking corn as a kid? I remember doing it, and I think it was a chore I didn't mind. My favorite was when my Mom cut the kernels off and they would come off in big chunks. Yum.

I did a DIY paint kit from an artist I have loved for awhile. It turned out awesome!

We decided to go camping Saturday night! We planned it about a week ago and lucked out with the perfect weather, since on Friday evening there were tornadoes all over the area. We stopped on the way down for treats from county fair vendors in a Hy Vee parking lot!

We didn't zip a door closed and for some reason, Marlo was targeted by all the mosquitoes in the tent and possibly the world. They tormented her all night as Rob tried to keep them at bay. I only realized the door was open in the morning. Kasper, Rob and I had a couple hours of whittling and coffee time before Marlo finally woke up from her terrible night.

Could you feel any worse for her? Rob counted 70 bites on her face. There were like 8 on the tip of her nose alone. They even got her lips. It was a maiming!
IMG_1673 IMG_8823 IMG_1676 IMG_1680

We went on a little hike but their hearts weren't in it.
IMG_8827 IMG_8830

Rob killed a ton of fat mosquitos overnight and then found and took vengeance on at least 30 more when he was packing up and taking down the tent. They were all still digesting and full of Marlo blood.

We got home and set to work making Marlo more comfortable.  She's got a big week ahead of her, but she's an incredibly tough and positive kid. Wish her luck!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
