A day in the life - 7.26.14
I've seen other bloggers do day in the life posts and always find it so interesting to get a peek into a normal day for them. I've never done it before, but thought I'd give it a shot! It's actually kind of difficult to remember to document everything we did! I chose a weekend day, a somewhat typical Saturday when we have no plans. Kasper is 3.5 years old, Marlo is 7 months old.
7:00 am - Kasper's light turns green and he yells out as much. Rob goes in to "release" him from his bed and get him to the toilet. Another dry pull-up! He's dry 99% of the time at night but when I decide to make the switch to undies he wakes up wet. It's probably time. Now that we're awake I look at the monitor and Marlo is playing in her pack and play. Rob drops Kasper off in our bed and goes down to get her. I nurse Marlo while Rob and Kasper roughhouse in bed.

7:20 am - Lois decides that she'd like to get up, go outside and get some breakfast thankyouverymuch. She stands super close to the bed whining and wagging her tail aggressively until you move to help her. She goes out.

7:30 am - We're still in bed which is very common for weekend mornings.

7:35 am - Rob and Kasper get up to get Kasper something to eat. He woke up hungry! Marlo and I get a couple more snuggles in before getting out of bed ourselves.

Lois gets her breakfast. We found out this past week that her food is going to be discontinued soon so we decided to try transitioning her to a new food. This is 75% old food, 25% new food. She's not into it.

7:50 am - Marlo sits down for breakfast. Applesauce with cereal and yogurt! She's NOT a fan of the applesauce at home which is weird because she eats it every day at daycare.

Rob and Kasper have decided to do their morning playing with fire hats on. They play a minute in the sunroom then Rob leaves to get to grinding some coffee.

8:00 am - Marlo is ready for a nap! She goes down for a nap about an hour after she wakes up in the morning. It's kind of nice because it frees us up to have a leisurely breakfast and read the newspaper. She doesn't want to be rocked this morning, just to be put in bed.

She goes into bed awake with her blankets. It took Kasper a long time to put himself to sleep but Marlo has always been a DIY type of gal. Her bed is a pack-and-play in the basement bedroom. She LOVES it down there and doesn't sleep well anywhere else, really.
8:15 am - I head back upstairs to start on breakfast. Kasper has requested waffles and eggs. Kasper and Rob read books in the sunroom while I make breakfast.

8:30 am - We dine.

As we're eating, Kasper starts talking about how he's between the Mama and Papa butterflies. What?? Turns out he's decided the 3 butterflies in the second to last row are Mama, Papa and Kasper. Lois is the weird moth looking thing on the far left of the last row and Marlo is next to her. I love these peeks in his little brain.

Out of nowhere he asks about Kasper Meier. His baby book happened to be out so we showed him pictures of his Great Grandpa Meier then end up paging through the whole thing. He loves looking at pictures of when he was a baby.

9:00 am - We all break up to do our own thing for a bit so I clean up the kitchen. I marvel at how it's only 9 am. We've been doing it for 3.5 years but I'm still shocked at how early it always is. I started some cold press coffee the night before so I strain that and get it into bottles.

Btw, check out those orchids! So weird they hadn't done anything for the last 4 years. They're lucky I didn't throw them away.
9:15 am - I find Kasper in the sunroom quietly looking through his things. I really appreciate that he can entertain himself. Even more so with my needy baby.

9:20 am - Rob and Kasper head out to play soccer. I get to sit a second before I have to go back inside to banish the dog to the deck so she stops barking.

While I'm inside I check to see if Marlo is still sleeping (she is) and also notice Lois hasn't touched her breakfast. Not a good sign that she's going to take to the new food.

9:30 am - Back outside! I sip iced coffee, look on my phone, check Instagram and Timehop, watch the bees that are always all over the plants. Rob and Kasper make up new games and generally run around.

9:45 am - Rob goes in to get a toy he found at Target a couple weeks ago. I bribe Kasper to smile for me. He's a natural. His cheeks are all pink already from running around.

Closing his eyes for the toy!

It's a cool launching plane!

10:30 am - We decide to go for a run! Marlo is still sleeping so I go wake her up. She was SOUND asleep and did not want to wake up.

I get her up and going - nurse her, change her diaper and get her dressed. She's kind of a mess.

10:45 am - Lois still hasn't touched her food so we give her a new bowl with just her old food in it. She gobbles it up.

11 am - We head out on our run! We do a nice 2.8 mile loop. I am not back into running shape and this is a somewhat painful run for me but I'm just glad to be doing it. The kids have a great time riding until Marlo started so scream bloody murder for no reason. We think a bug flew into the stroller.

11:45 am - We're back in the house for lunch. Marlo got a package in the mail - her headband for Aunt Steph's wedding! Love it!

Kasper chooses "orange noodles" for lunch. Rob makes that while I herd the kids. We go potty, wash hands and get ready to eat.
12:10 pm - We dine.

Orange noodles for us. Yogurt and a strawberry squeeze pouch for Marlo. She ends up not feeling her lunch so I get her a pickle. She gnaws on that while we eat then takes a big dump.

12:40 pm - Nap time! Marlo doesn't want to be rocked for this nap either. Down to bed she goes. Kasper gets a story then he goes to down as well.

Both kids go to sleep without a peep! Rob and I clean up from lunch, I upload the pictures from this morning then we settle in for an episode of Game of Thrones. We're working our way through Season 4. We're not sure if we'll close our eyes for a nap but the episode proves too intense to sleep through.
2 pm - Marlo is up!

Sometimes this afternoon nap is longer but about an hour and a half isn't bad! She comes upstairs to hang out with us while we finish the episode then she does some exploring and playing with brother's toys while he's still sleeping.

She ended up crawling over to the dog. Who she loves these days. Lois is amazing with little kids.

3 pm - Big brother is up!

We play in the sunroom a bit while we talked about what to do next. Marlo has some milk, Kasper has a snack.
3:30 pm - We head out to the backyard! Marlo and I sit on the swing and eat puffs. Rob picks weeds. Kasper does what it is that Kasper does.

4:30 pm - Marlo decides she would like one last nap. I end up rocking her to sleep for this nap so I can lay her down in her crib upstairs. She doesn't go to sleep on her own up there.

I head back outside where Kasper has negotiated some swing pushes. He basically lived on the swing the last 2 summers. Not so much this year! He's out of practice because he's scared of going too high.

The fear is apparently warranted because he ends up hitting Lois as she darts by and he falls off the swing.
We discover the backyard gardens are crawling in burr plants. We are rarely back there so it's a little neglected. Oops. Rob clears out a bunch of the burrs. We find a cute frog on one.

5 pm - We decide to grill burgers so Rob and Kasper run to the store.
5:30 pm - Marlo wakes up! We play in the sunroom and she is full of giggles.

I get the grill preheating and some water going for corn on the cob. I also decide to make some sautéed potatoes to use up some we got in the CSA.
5:45 pm - The guys are back! I hand Marlo off to Rob while I cook dinner. Kasper decides to play inside with his Kinetic Sand.

We try to eat at 6 pm but often we are scrambling to get dinner ready by then. Especially when we'd rather be playing outside.
6:10 pm - We dine. Burgers (bacon cheeseburger for the guys, turkey for me) with corn on the cob and potatoes. We decided on burgers to use the round pickles I recently made. Marlo gets more yogurt and squeeze pouch.

6:30 pm - We're done eating. Kasper goes inside to play while we stay on the deck. Marlo is in a very good mood. I've been trying to teach her to say Mama.

Kasper comes back out to have a cookie.

6:50 pm - Bathtime! Marlo gets in the tub while Kasper does just about anything to delay getting in himself. Lately he's been falling back on the old "I get a chocolate for going potty" bit. He ate all the M&M's so now they're gone.

He's in!

Rob does the bath while I frantically run around and put away the dinner dishes.
7 pm - Marlo's done with her bath! This is one of my favorite parts of the day. Rob brings her out to me so I can get her ready for bed. She always smiles so big when she sees me and I love it so much.

Got her!

7:10 pm - Marlo is all ready for bed!

While I'm getting her all lotioned up and into pjs, Rob is getting Kasper washed up and his teeth brushed.

7:15 pm - I nurse Marlo before putting her down for the night. Tonight she isn't super interested in milk. She wants to be silly and giggle.

Most of the time she calms down while having her milk and does a good time drinking. Sometimes everything else is more interesting.

7:30 pm - Marlo is in bed. She didn't seem very sleepy but I didn't hear a peep!

I head back upstairs where Rob has Kasper in his pjs and in bed. They are finishing up their stories. After the story we spend some time the 3 of us. There are lots of hugs and giggles. Kasper likes us to sing the Night Night Kasper songs and talking about "the things that I do" which is where we list things that make him a big boy. "You go poo poo and potty in the toilet, you are a good big brother to Marlo, you are so good at riding your bike, etc."

This process usually lasts until 8 pm. There are many trips to the bathroom and random requests.
8 pm - I upload more of these pictures and start to go through them. Rob is working on the other computer.
8:45 pm - We rendezvous to share some tiramisu from Pizza Luce. We got it the night before but I didn't think it was enough for 4 people to share so we saved it.

I spend more time working on this post and Rob goes back to the other computer.
9:45 pm - I decide to head to bed. It's not as easy as that at the moment and I have to pump before turning in. I won't miss having to pump! I will miss having a nursing baby. But that's another post for another time. After I pump I have to deal with the milk, putting some in freezer bags, some into a bottle, wash the pump parts.
10:20 pm - Finally. Off to bed. Rob is still working. I peek in at Kasper and cover him up. I look at Marlo on the monitor. I don't go down and peek at her because she always wakes up when I do. I brush my teeth, wash my face, put my splint on and crawl into bed to read a magazine. I don't make it long before I turn off the light and go to sleep.

2 am - Rob comes to bed. Other than this, there are no wake-ups by anyone overnight!
7 am - We start all over again.
That was pretty fun to do actually! I think I'll like looking back at these days in a few years when the kids are older.
