Windows!

Other than some fun house progress, we had a normal week with work, school, swimming lessons, ski club.

The fun update at the house is that the windows are (mostly) all in! We added a couple windows after our initial window order so the big office window came later in the week and the little squares in our bathroom aren't in yet. There is a window downstairs but it looks like it arrived damaged so it wasn't installed yet.

Also this week, HVAC began!

Our cabinet drawings are stapled all over the house for mechanical rough in. Each step makes it feel more real! FYI - the boards with the red edges are engineered studs. They put them in spots where it's important that the wall is super plumb straight like where kitchen cabinets go and shower tile go.

Still waiting on those little square windows! The house is so much warmer with windows in.

Brrrrrrr

It was cold this week! Seems like the third week of January is always downright bitter.  In fact, it was too cold to get done what they wanted at the house - most notably installing the windows. It was even too cold for Kappy's ski club!

They got the peak up on the upper level gable. It was about -10 degrees this day. The construction guys are mostly out there in the elements all day. Thankfully the basement is constantly heated and pretty pleasant so there is somewhere to warm up.

Then the porch, which I LOVE.

Boxes of windows!

Stairs!

They got exactly 2 windows in. Apparently the plastic seal around the window cracks when it's nailed in and it's this cold. That's the biggest concern.

The kids got to finally walk into their rooms! First is Marlo's room.

Kappy's!

They also got the fireplace framed in downstairs! I think they're looking for things to do in the warm basement.

In other news, I got a (not awesome) video of Marlo doing the backstroke in swimming lessons. Swimming is really starting to click with her!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Stay warm!

We have the power!

Big news at the house, we have power! Xcel got out to connect us to the main power line. Thankfully it hadn't been a huge issue yet but I think another week without would've been rough.

Look at them all plugged in!

The other fun development was the roof going on!

Stairs too!

We're turning this weird half wall in the basement into a built-in. It's there because of the grade outside.
  IMG_6660

Our builder is very insistant on doing things well. They poured the concrete floors in the basements to inlay the walls for max support.

  IMG_6661

The kids and I went over yesterday to admire the whole roof! We are all really, really happy with how the house is looking as it goes up. It's different from looking at it on paper!

I love what the view will be when you walk in the front door.

The porch is going up too!

It's so exciting that it's all framed so we can admire it. Other than house excitement, Marlo had swimming lessons and Kasper started ski club! They left right from school on coach buses (with a bathroom!!) and got back at 8:30 pm. It sounds like it was a blast. They skied their hearts out and even got to buy dinner at the chalet. I'm thankful the kids get to do fun things like that.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Surprise!

The house is still cruising along! The concrete was poured in the basement and all 3 levels are framed.  Next, the roof!

We snuck up the ladder to tour the upper level! Master bedroom and in red, master bathroom.

Sounds like the crane they wanted to use is unavailable/inoperable so the roof trusses haven't gone up yet.

Yesterday we had a surprrise party for Kappy! He hasn't had a party for years. We went to a sleding hill nearby and had hot dogs, hot chocolate and cupcakes. It was a weird 30 degree day on either side of 0 degree days so that was awesome! The kids were sledding for about 4 hours and still going when it was time to leave. They had the best time.

He was so surprised! Today was cleaning the apartment and FINALLY taking the Christmas tree down. It was way past time.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
