End of summer
We made it! Summer ends this weekend and we really enjoyed it.
The kids spent the week up in St. Cloud!

Sandra brought them both down Wednesday night to go to their school open house and they got to meet their teachers! Marlo has the same kindergarten teacher as Kasper and knows 3 other kids in her class!

They went back to St. Cloud Wednesday night.

On Friday morning we left as early as we could manage and drove alllllllllll the way up the Gunflint Trail, just 4 miles short of Canada. We met 4 other families up there for a weekend of fun! We knew 2 of the families already and knew the kids got along well. All the families had an 8-10ish year old and a 5-7ish year old. The parents talked while the kids ran absolutely wild. It was so much fun.

There were a couple foxes that hung out by our cabins.

Don't worry, we didn't touch or feed them. They did like to take shoes and hide them around the camp site. Rob followed one fox taking Kasper's shoe under our cabin. Got it back!
It is really beautiful up there.

Yesterday we took a canoe trip into the Boundary Waters! Since you can't have a large group, 3 families did one route and 2 did another.

Ours was a loop with 6 portages. The longest was 3/4 of a mile. It was pretty intense.

Rob wore his "portaging cutoffs"!

The kids all did SO WELL. We'd get to a portage, they would all jump out and grab what they were responsible for then run ahead.

We stopped for lunch on this island.

We were all beat last night and I think we were all asleep by 9:30. I woke up this morning and couldn't move my neck or ribs. I thought I was dying. I'm not in paddling shape apparently! We left for home after breakfast. The kids were exhausted the whole ride home and went to bed early and crying.

We have a day to recover before school starts! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
