23 weeks

Ok. Time needs to slow down now. June is half over and soon summer will be too. I hope we don't spend our summer house hunting. I hate it.

So the big news in the household this week is that our house sold!

The radon test was done on Monday so it was a done deal! (And the good news is that we haven't been living in radon for the last 4 years.) We started our house search in earnest this week and I personally find it exhausting and discouraging. I'm sure it doesn't matter what price point you're at - you wish you had $X more to get just a little more house. We still don't know where we want to end up. By "we" I mostly mean me. Rob is pretty set on the West Metro. I am all over the place. We are down to 5 weeks until closing so hopefully we'll figure it out.

This picture was taken last Sunday evening when we got back from Cirque du Soleil. This was how the week started and how it stayed pretty much. Exhausting. (I was sitting right next to him the whole time so he wasn't in danger of rolling off.)

The week was filled with appointments, appointments, house tours and other appointments. Kasper decided not to sleep well at daycare again. At least one night he decided not to sleep well at home either. In his defense, that was the night I tried to see if he could go to sleep without the paci. For the most part, sleeping unswaddled has been great! Apparently he's not ready to give up the paci. He has it in for about 5 minutes, but it helps to soothe him. I think he's also going through some stuff right now. He has started Wonder Week 26 - Relationships. This is when he learns he just a small baby in a big world. It's also when he starts to get upset when we leave him. Yay!

Kasper is still enjoying rice cereal and avocados. He finished his avocado this weekend. I was going to start bananas but all the bananas I bought have mysteriously disappeared. I think Rob ate them. Time to get more bananas!

He's rolling all over the place now. He can make it across the room by the time we're done with breakfast! He couldn't quite remember how to roll back once he got himself on his tummy but I think he has remembered now.

We're moving on to sitting now! I was going to have him sit in his crib with the aid of the boppy while I folded some diapers. I think he's really getting it, don't you?

Rob was at Wisconsin Dells for the weekend for a bachelor party so it was just Kasper, Lois and I. My Mom came down on Saturday to look at some houses and we looked at more when Rob got home today. House shopping is a real roller coaster ride! We get excited about a house then cool off, then get excited about another house and cool off. Maybe we're just not looking for a "forever" house just yet.

Kasper got pretty good at sitting tripod! He can stay up for about a minute at a time before toppling over. Here he was Saturday morning. (Note the red nose. He's a face sleeper remember.)

And Sunday. Doesn't he look like he's been sitting for years?? So big!

Then to remind me that he's still a little baby, he threw up while on his tummy and got the throw up all over his face and head. Not so big now, are we son?

Silly Kasper. While this whole moving house business may be the death of me, I love the quiet moments with my boy. They remind us to slow down a little.

Week 23 - Baby Sitta, Mama and Papa havea nowhere to liva.

P.S. I almost blogged about the massive blowout that resulted in an emergency bath with the diaper on. You're welcome.

In other news...

42 days! For more than we expected! A girl about our age is buying the house and LOVES it just like we do. It'll be perfect for her and we hope she enjoys it.

Now we start the search for a new place. And pack. And move. Yikes! Wish us luck.

22 weeks

Finally!! A beautiful weekend in MN. Poor Kasper Williams had to wait 22 weeks to see one.

We had a great week! Sometimes you feel like nothing is going your way in parenthood and sometimes you feel like you are rocking at it. This week I mostly felt like parenting rocked. There were certain issues I was stressing about that ended up being no big deal. Isn't that usually the case?

We had a nice and relaxing Memorial Day weekend. I already wrote about most of it, but here are a couple more pictures from the weekend.

Playing in his exersaucer. He doesn't like it nearly as much as the one at daycare.

Side note - K has blisters on his big toes from jumping so much at daycare.

So starting solids was one of the things that I was so nervous about for some reason. I think I was afraid of him choking or having an allergic reaction or something. And I didn't know how much to feed, etc. It all worked out. I have to remember that bit of wisdom to "Trust your baby."

My second "Well that was easier than I thought" came when we ditched the swaddle cold turkey. Last week and weekend we swaddled to go to sleep but Kasper usually ended up doing quite a bit of crying to go to sleep and would finally quiet down when he was out of the swaddle. We tried 1 arm out for a night then on Wednesday night, we laid him down with no swaddle! You know what? He slept great again! I was right that he was weaning himself from the swaddle. He cries very little and is able to put himself back to sleep when he wakes up. I have been putting him in his crib for naps and he is rocking at it. He starts on his back and maybe sleeps for a few sleep cycles then flips over and finishes the rest of the nap or night on his tummy. Okay so maybe most of the "I'm rocking parenting" is actually just "Kasper doing what comes naturally." Either way, we'll take it.

Not only his he a tummy sleeper, I think he prefers to sleep face down. I don't like it, but he is often like this. Weird, right?

We started the weekend with a trip to the pediatrician. Daycare was pretty sure K had an ear infection so I took him in to check. His ears were fine, thankfully. He did get weighed and it looks like he hasn't gained a single ounce since he was in there 3 weeks ago! I was a little concerned but the Dr. wants to wait until his 6 month check-up to see what his weight is. It may have something to do with the fact that he jumps for half the day. That has to burn some major calories!

This weekend we added avocados to K's menu. I mashed a little ripe avocado with some milk and he ate it like a champ!

A little blurry, but cute.

We had a busy weekend with a wedding Saturday night and Cirque du Soleil Sunday afternoon. The Grandmas came down to take turns watching the boy. I know K had a great time with them! We are now home and have the evening to relax. I missed my baby this weekend!

I'll leave you with a gratuitous photoshoot. Forgive me but I couldn't narrow them down. Cutest baby ever, no?

I know that was ridiculous but I am in love with all of these and wanted them all up so I could see them. So there.

Another weekend gone. So fast. Boo.

5 months

Kasper -

DSC_0538-1.jpg

You are 5 months old today! You continue to amaze us with how much you grow and change each month. In the last monthly update, you were only just able to reach your toes. Today I almost can't remember a time when you weren't always grabbing your feet or sticking them in your smiling mouth. Crazy.

5 mo grid

The biggest change in your little life happened this month when I went back to work and you started at daycare. I was so dreading this transition a month ago but it really didn't turn out to be all bad. It helps that you LOVE daycare! Even if you're grumpy and tired at home, apparently you get to daycare and have a great day! You had trouble finding your sleep but after they started swaddling, you have been able to get some rest during the day. I think you spend most of your day jumping in the exersaucer. Jumping is one of your most favorite things to do.

You continue to be a super social baby. You can be having a bad day, tired, hungry, whiny but as soon as someone looks at you, you go into total flirt mode. You always have a smile for anyone and sometimes even a giggle.

We slogged through a Wonder Week most of this month and you went through some things developmentally. There are probably more than I can list here, but this month you started to roll front to back as well as back to front. You can scoot towards a toy on your tummy and grab it. You are becoming a little mobile baby now! You are able to play by yourself for longer periods of time which I appreciate.

You are still a great nurser although you do get a little distracted sometimes. You have definite preferences when it comes to nursing. It's ok if other people talk, but I may not. You get all mad when I try to talk while you're eating. If I call out to someone, you cry. We started rice cereal this month and while you loved it the first day, you've been a little iffy since.

DSC_0473-1.jpg

You had only just doubled your birth weight when you went to the Dr. when you were sick at around 4 months. You're long and thin for sure! You are still in 3-6 month clothes but 6 month clothes are a little big.

You are now sleeping in your crib at night! You sometimes take naps in your Rock and Play if you're not feeling the crib, but you do well in it at night. During your Wonder Week period, you were waking up 2-3 times per night then it went down to 1 or none after the Week ended. Now that the weather is warmer, I think you get a little uncomfortable and sweaty and refuse to sleep so we're working on that. You're still pretty little, so I guess I'll cut you some slack on your sleeping patterns. You're possibly starting to wean yourself from your swaddle. You wiggle out of it at night and I usually find you completely out of it in the morning. Sometimes you practice your rolling in your crib and end up on your tummy! You usually cry when that happens. We'll try swaddling with 1 arm out to see how you like it. So far that's working better than both arms or neither. You'll need to start working on your self soothing at night. You have trouble going back to sleep if something wakes you up. We have been letting you figure it out on your own and most often you cry for less than 10 minutes before you are back to sleep.

We don't really have "outtakes" like we used to when taking the monthly pictures since you're pretty in control of your body so here are just some cute ones.
