King of a Week

Howdy! It's Sunday AGAIN! And this Sunday it SNOWED again! I love seeing snow on the ground. It's January after all.

Monday was MLK day which means I had the day off of work. Rob went in to work and brought Kasper to daycare. I took the opportunity to get a nice long run in on the treadmill and have a lazy morning after that. By lunch time I had convinced Rob to play hooky and spend the rest of the day with me! We met at Old Chicago for calzones and BEER.
Daycare for baby, no work for Mama, Papa playing hooky! Beer for lunch!
The high temp on Monday was -5 degrees or something ridiculous so we tried to limit our time outside. We looked at TVs at Best Buy, hit up the thrift shop and ended up at Rustica for coffees and croissants. It was such a fun day! I'm so glad Rob spent it with me!

When we got home Monday we realized K was running a small fever which got worse overnight resulting in 3 screaming wake-ups. (Side note - I DON'T MISS THAT.) I stayed home with him Monday. His fever wasn't terribly high but he was clearly feeling super crummy. The shoes helped a bit. (Found those at the thrift store!) He is Dutch after all.

I started a bad habit by allowing K to sit on the counter and "peel a naranka".

He peeled the whole thing himself and set all the "skins" in little rows. As he would take one off, he'd say what it looked like (race car, moon, etc) then line it up.

He sat with me for a little Nemo before naptime. Which lasted FOUR hours. He needed the rest.

Thursday was Royalty Day at daycare!

He kept that crown on the WHOLE NIGHT. He loved it.

We had a pretty chill weekend. Rob and Kasper went to swimming lessons yesterday morning and had a great time again. When K went down for his nap, Steph came over so we could run out and do a couple things we wanted to do baby-free like go to the running store to get fitted for new running shoes and stop at REI to browse and try on jackets. We stopped by a RedBox on the way home and rented Cars2 to watch on the new TV. I was pretty impressed by Kasper's attention! He watched some and generally stayed out of trouble. Also making an appearance in these - THE BASEMENT!

You can see the new treadmill back there as well as Rob's bike trainer. The basement does double duty as living room with a fireplace and dojo.

Done paying attention!

This is random but pretty funny. He gathered some of his favorite things around him while sitting on the potty. The potty is not the least bit interesting to Kasper. He sits on it for at least a second while his bath is being run but he doesn't actually use it.

Today Rob and Kasper went for a run outside while I got groceries. I'll have to watch the news but I'd say we got about 4 inches of snow over the course of the afternoon! It's beautiful fluffy snow!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Power out!

We started the week off right with pj day at daycare and silly faces.

What a pair.
Kasper wanted to curl up under the blanket with me and cuddle. How lucky was I??

We also had some fun spelling our names in the tub.

We decided that the long hair wasn't doing Kasper any favors so I gave him a hair cut! He still hates haircuts but luckily when a Katy Perry song came on he sat relatively still so I could cut around his ears. I didn't do too bad a job! I'm done with the haircut at this point so he's able to totally zone out in front of the iPad.

Here's what Lois did during the haircut hubbub. She spent the day at the vet getting her teeth cleaned and nails trimmed. She was there from 7-5!! They said she did great which was a relief. She had to be put under for the cleaning so she was a little out of it for a couple days. She also had 2 teeth pulled so I think she was in a little pain at night even though she was on pain killers.

We had some fun one night after dinner and got some cute videos of the guy.

Playing around... Kasper is such a fun kid.

In other news, who is that big kid??

We went to pal Hudson's birthday yesterday morning where Kasper had fun creepily following the older kids around. He also got to suck the frosting off a perfectly good cupcake and leave the cake for us to eat.

Somehow I didn't take any pictures the rest of the weekend! My Mom came down to hang out with me while Rob was gone for the evening. Steph came over as well and as we were killing time until Kasper woke up, the power went off at our house! This set off an unplanned evening where we all (including the dog) packed up and headed over to Steph and Tim's before our house got too dark and cold. We got to hang out there a couple hours before I ran back home to grab pjs only to get halfway home and receive the call the power was back on. Sigh. Kasper was only an hour late to bed and we didn't have to all crash at Steph's house and ruin their night so it all turned out ok. And to be fair, both Kasper and Lois were perfect house guests which made me very proud.

Today was a stay in your pjs day and we did just that!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Kasper's second birthday

Better late than never, right?? We celebrated Kasper's second birthday a couple weeks ago and had a great day.

Someone turned TWO today!! #mynewyearsbaby

We started the day with our birthday tradition of animal pancakes and of course the drink of the moment, hot tawkyit.

Rob decorated the chalkboard for the day.

So cool, right??

We did some playing in the afternoon and when Kasper woke up from his nap, his party guests had arrived! We had his Grandparents and Aunt Steph over to celebrate. I kept it super simple this year and just ordered a bunch of K's favorite pizzas. For dessert I made chocolate cupcakes.

(They were as good as they look)

Kasper was shy when we sang to him but at least he didn't cry this year!

After cake Kasper opened the MOUNTAIN of presents he had. He did such a great job opening them! He would open one, get excited about it then turn to the gift giver and say thank you. I was so impressed!

At one point he opened a book, flipped through it and exclaimed "Oooooh! Nice book! Thank you Grandma!" Hahahaha!

A special day for a special boy. Love you, buddy! Enjoy being TWO!

My quotable kid

Our first full week back to work! And we survived! It even went fast. I managed to get a couple pics off Kasper's digital camera. He has quite the eye, doesn't he??

We started the week with a visit to the Dr. for Kasper's 2 year appointment. He has fun playing in the waiting room but as soon as we made our way to the exam room he started to cry and assert that the room was "scary." The nurse seemed surprised he used that word. He cried when the Dr. came in but after we started talking he got more comfortable and galloped around the room chatting and singing. First time that's happened! The main talking point at the appointment was his weight. Of course.

First the stats:

Weight: 23 lb - 3.2%
Length: 35" - 66.3%
Head: 18.25" - 5.5%

Basically holding steady with length and head size but falling again in weight. He only gained ONE pound in the last 6 months. ONE POUND. My heart sank. Our pediatrician continues to be level headed and positive which I appreciate. I actually started to feel better about it when I learned Rob was 24 pounds and I was 26 when we were 2. Still, I hate thinking that he's just not gaining weight! The next checkup is supposed to be at 3 years but we'll be going back at 2.5 to check how things are going.

Moving on...

The rest of the week was low key as was the weekend. Rob and Kasper went to swimming lessons yesterday while I stayed home. I guess it went VERY well! Kasper participated and even enjoyed himself! I was so happy to hear that. I know he loves the water! Kasper strictly adheres to a 1 pm naptime lately so any activities we do have to be between breakfast and 12 to allow time for lunch. It's sort of limiting but he really needs the sleep and asks and asks until we head home.

Lois is so wonderful with him.

We all slept in today - until after 8 am! It felt good at the time but it sure eats into our activity window! We had thought about going to do something fun but by the time we were done with breakfast at 10:30 it wasn't really worth going anywhere. We just played around the house.

Kasper is constantly asking Rob to "play toys". It can mean many things, but usually it means playing with his trains on the train track.

In an effort to do at least one fun thing today, we went to Caribou before going to the grocery store. Kasper loves "hot tawkyit" so we made time for that.
Coffee date!

(Someone needs another haircut. I just have to work up the courage.)

Since I'm still playing catch-up from all the X-mas and birthday stuff, I haven't gotten around to writing about the funny things Kasper has been saying lately. It's such a treat to hear him really talk. Often times I have no idea where he hears what he says! It's hilarious!

- Looking at pictures of himself on our phones, he calls that boy "Doo Doo". No idea.
- I had a runny nose and every time I sniffed he would look very concerned and ask "Wha happened Mama??"
- Saying things are "silly"
- "Get down" or "come on" when he wants you to follow him somewhere. Said like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- "Look at me!!" - self explanatory and one of the most adorable things ever
- "Yes." - he used to always say "Yep" and "Nope" but now he answers "Yes" very seriously while nodding his head.
- Tim - my Dad's name as well as Steph's boyfriend. It's the name Kasper gives to any toy or picture of a man in any book. I'm starting to wonder if since most men he knows are named Tim, maybe he thinks that's just the word for "person"??
- "No laundry!" - Kasper doesn't want his clothes to go in the laundry when they are taken off. I'm not quite sure where this fear is coming from. If he gets his hands on clothes before I can get them into the laundry he carries them around and won't let go.

One last thing - as I kissed the boys on their way out the door (while enjoying a cup of joe) Kasper said "I'm kissing Mama's coffee". Hahahahaha! Loud and clear buddy.

Well, I think that's a random enough post for tonight! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Check back this week for a birthday post! (2 weeks later. NBD.)
